Overview

Rahama Wellness Center provides a professional patient pick-up and safe transport service across Abuja, so that a family does not have to move a relative in crisis on their own. Our trained team collects the patient from home or from another location in the FCT and brings them to our centre in Sabon Lugbe for clinical assessment and treatment. Pick-up is charged as an additional fee on top of treatment, set by the location, the situation and the level of assistance required.

Why families ask for a pick-up

Bringing a loved one in for treatment is often the hardest part of getting help. When a person is in severe distress, agitated, disoriented or behaving violently, a family car and two frightened relatives are not a safe way to travel. Families across Lugbe, Gwarinpa, Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, Garki and Kubwa ask us for this because the alternative is usually a journey nobody is trained for, or no journey at all.

How a pick-up is arranged

You call Rahama Wellness Center and describe the situation plainly: who the person is, what has been happening, who else is in the house, and what has already been tried. A clinician talks it through with you before anything is booked, because the right answer is sometimes an outpatient appointment or a referral rather than a pick-up. If a pick-up is right, we agree the address, the time, the team and the fee with you first, and only then does anyone set off.

Care, dignity and safety on the journey

Our team handles the pick-up with care, professionalism and dignity, taking appropriate precautions to protect the patient, the family and our own staff. Least restrictive means come first. The patient is told who we are, where they are going and why, and is given the chance to walk to the vehicle themselves. Restraint is a last resort, used only where someone would otherwise be at risk, and it is never an opening move.

What a pick-up is not

A patient pick-up is a journey to an assessment. It is not a detention, and it is not an emergency ambulance call. Our team works to bring the patient with their agreement rather than around it: they explain who they are, where the patient is going and why, and give the patient the chance to travel willingly. Tell us on the call if the person is refusing all help, and Rahama Wellness Center will say honestly what we can and cannot do. If the person has a physical medical emergency, a suspected overdose, a serious injury or is unconscious, call an ambulance or go to the nearest emergency department first. Mental health treatment can follow once they are medically stable.

What happens on arrival

The patient arrives at our centre on Okin Saeed Street in Sabon Lugbe, where a clinician carries out a confidential assessment and agrees the next step with the patient and, where the patient consents, with the family. That may be admission, or an outpatient plan built around individual therapy or one of our specialised therapy programmes. Relatives are usually part of what follows, and family and couples therapy runs alongside the patient’s own treatment where it helps.

What a pick-up costs

Pick-up is priced separately from treatment and quoted before the team travels. The fee depends on the location, the situation and the level of assistance required, which is why no single figure is published here: a short journey with a relative who agrees to come is not the same job as a long one that needs three staff. Nobody is asked to agree to an amount they have not heard first. Send a confidential message or call the centre, and a clinician will talk it through with you.

What to Expect

  1. The call

Call Rahama Wellness Center and tell us what has been happening. A clinician listens, asks about the person's history and current state, and finds out who else is in the house and what has already been tried.

  2. Deciding whether a pick-up is the right response

Sometimes it is not. We may suggest an outpatient appointment, an assessment you bring the person to yourself, or emergency medical care first. We tell you plainly which we think is right, and why.

  3. Agreeing the arrangement

We agree the pick-up address, the time, who will travel and the fee before anyone sets off. The fee depends on the location, the situation and the level of assistance required.

  4. The journey

Our trained team travels to the location and brings the patient to our centre in Sabon Lugbe. They explain to the patient who they are and where they are going, and take appropriate precautions to protect the patient, the family and the team.

  5. Assessment on arrival

A clinician assesses the patient confidentially at the centre and agrees the next step with the patient and the family. That may be admission, or an outpatient plan the patient goes home with.

Who This Is For

This service may help if…

  • A relative is in severe distress, agitated or disoriented, and cannot safely travel in a family car.
  • You are the only adult at home and cannot manage the journey on your own.
  • An earlier attempt to bring your relative in was abandoned partway, or ended badly.
  • You live elsewhere in Abuja or the FCT and have no way to get the person to Lugbe.
  • A clinician, a school or an employer has advised assessment and the person will not travel.
  • You are frightened of what might happen on the journey, for the patient or for yourself.

Our approach

We treat a pick-up as clinical work rather than a collection. A clinician speaks with you before any team is sent, the patient is told where they are going and why, and least restrictive means come first at every point. The aim is that the person reaches Rahama Wellness Center able to begin treatment, not more frightened than when they left.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Rahama Wellness Center pick up a patient in Abuja?
Yes. Rahama Wellness Center runs a patient pick-up and safe transport service across Abuja and the FCT, bringing a person in severe distress to our centre in Sabon Lugbe for assessment and treatment. A clinician talks the situation through with you before anything is arranged. Pick-up is charged as an additional fee on top of treatment. Call +234 701 084 1311 to arrange one.
How much does patient pick-up cost in Abuja?
Patient pick-up is priced separately from treatment and quoted before the team travels. The fee depends on the location, the situation and the level of assistance required, so there is no single published figure. We agree the amount with you on the call, and nobody is asked to commit to a figure they have not heard first. Call +234 701 084 1311 to ask about your own situation.
Is patient pick-up an ambulance service?
No. Rahama Wellness Center provides safe transport to our centre for mental health assessment and treatment, not emergency medical care. If the person has a physical medical emergency, a suspected overdose, a serious injury or is unconscious, call an ambulance or go to the nearest emergency department first. Mental health treatment can follow once they are medically stable.
What happens if the patient refuses to come?
Tell us on the call, before anything is arranged. A patient pick-up is a journey to an assessment and not a detention, so our team works to bring the patient with their agreement rather than around it. They explain to the patient who they are, where the patient is going and why, and give them the chance to travel willingly. Where that is not possible, Rahama Wellness Center will tell you honestly what we can and cannot do rather than promise a result we cannot deliver.
Will the patient be restrained during transport?
Only as a last resort, and only where the patient or someone else would otherwise be at risk. Our trained team works by least restrictive means: talking first, explaining what is happening, and giving the patient the chance to walk to the vehicle themselves. Appropriate precautions are taken to protect the patient, the family and the team throughout the journey.
Which parts of Abuja does the pick-up service cover?
Rahama Wellness Center arranges pick-ups across Abuja and the wider FCT, including Lugbe, Gwarinpa, Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, Garki and Kubwa. Distance is one of the things that sets the fee, so give us the pick-up address when you call. For a location outside the FCT, ask us and we will tell you whether we can help.
How quickly can a patient pick-up be arranged?
Timing depends on the pick-up location, the time of day and what the situation needs, so we give you a realistic time when we agree the arrangement rather than a promise we cannot keep. Our lines are open around the clock and a clinician speaks with you on the first call rather than putting you on a list. Call +234 701 084 1311.
