Overview
Individual therapy at Rahama Wellness Center is a series of private, one-to-one sessions with a licensed clinician at our centre in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja. It is the usual starting point for anxiety, low mood and depression, trauma, grief, and burnout, and for anyone who has been carrying something on their own for a long time. Sessions are outpatient, so you attend by appointment and carry on with work, study and family life.
What happens in the first session
The first appointment is an assessment rather than treatment. Your clinician asks what has been happening, how long it has been going on, and what you want to be different. From there you agree a plan together: what the sessions will work on, how often you will attend, and what progress should look like. Nothing about your treatment is decided without you in the room, and you can leave that appointment without starting anything.
Who individual therapy is for
Most people who come to Rahama Wellness Center for individual therapy have been managing something privately for months or years. Others come because a doctor, an employer or a worried relative asked them to. Both are ordinary reasons to call. Where the difficulty sits in a marriage or a household more than in one person, marital and relationship counselling or family and couples therapy often fits better, and we will say so at assessment rather than book you in regardless. Where a structured, shorter piece of work suits the problem, we may suggest cognitive behavioural therapy instead.
Where sessions are held
Sessions run at our centre off Airport Road in Lugbe, and clients travel in from Gwarinpa, Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, Garki and Kubwa. Evening appointments are available for people who cannot take time out of a working day. What you say stays inside the clinical team, protected by the Nigeria Data Protection Act and clinical ethics, and the limits of that are explained to you before your first session rather than buried in a form.
