Overview
Specialised therapy programmes at Rahama Wellness Center are for people whose needs do not fit a standard weekly therapy hour. They include structured support for adolescents, for autistic people and people with ADHD, bereavement groups, and intensive multi-week packages for complex presentations. All are delivered by licensed clinicians at our centre in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja.
When a standard therapy hour is not enough
Some presentations need more contact than one session a week, some need a different room entirely, and some need a clinician who works differently. An adolescent will not engage with a format built for adults. An autistic adult is often failed by therapy that treats their processing as the thing to be fixed. A person in acute bereavement frequently does better alongside other people in it than alone with a clinician. Each of those is a reason to build the programme around the person rather than fit the person to the programme.
Adolescents
We work with adolescents aged 13 and above, always with parental consent and with approaches appropriate to the young person's age. Parents are involved deliberately, because a teenager goes home to their household after every session, and family and couples therapy often runs alongside an adolescent's own programme.
How a programme is built
Every programme starts with an assessment, and the assessment decides the programme rather than the other way round. What gets agreed is the format, the frequency, who else is involved, and what should have changed by the end. Where a standard course of individual therapy or cognitive behavioural therapy would serve you better, we will say so, because a specialised programme somebody does not need is expense without benefit.
